The Teepee, Rappahannock's newest family restaurant, is the result of a happy set of coincidences. Nestor Samson was looking for a home in the county when he stumbled on Mrs. MacDonald’s place at Spenyville, up for sale after she decided to retire.
Samson hadn't planned on running a restaurant in rural Virginia. Instead, he anticipated living in the country and possibly commuting into Washington, D.C., to work at a dinner establishment there.
Luckily for people here, his plans changed. The city’s loss has turned out to be the country’s gain.
“1 was planning to retire, looking for a house when I ran into this place,” said Samson. "My heart was still in the hospitality business—I couldn't turn down the opportunity.”
Samson's remodeled and expanded Teepee on Route 211 just outside Sperryville caters to the family trade. "We offer more or less country cooking, what the people like to eat," said Samson.
