Peter Carl Faberge, a Russian jeweler, is the most renowned egg decorator. His eighteenth century jeweled eggs were collected by three tsars and examples of his work are included in the permanent collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.
Gertrude Poling’s eggs evoke the Faberge feeling. In her hands, costume jewelry, colored glass and paper cutouts end up looking like precious stones. “It’s not hard,” she said. “Just time consuming.”
