Angry accusations and charges were tossed back and forth at last Thursday’s meeting of the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals as tempers exploded over recent action by the Supervisors to intervene in two suits against the BZA. Col. E. P. Luke, chairman of the Supervisors, came into the meeting at the close of the short agenda. He was immediately confronted by the BZA members with questions on the Supervisors intervention in a suit brought by P. E. Steve DeMent against the Board. DeMent is fighting revocation of his special use permit by the BZA. Court records show that a petition to intervene, signed by Commonwealth Attorney George Davis, was granted to the Supervisors by judge Rayner V. Snead on October 6, 1977. Snead entered the order on March 13 and set a hearing date for May.
