‘’The volume of work coming into this agency is staggering,” announced Welfare Director Elizabeth Buntin at last Friday’s meeting of the Rappahannock Welfare Board. "I'm getting more and more depressed about falling behind... I can’t even keep up with the mail. Some days, it takes me all day just to read and distribute it.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to us,” Mrs. Buntin continued. “I feel like I’m losing all efficiency and it’s been going on for two years.” She attributed most of her department’s problems to the increasing number of programs developed by various agencies that “live in little white towers down there in Richmond.”

A public meeting on the Soil and Water Conservation Act of 1977 will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 7:30 in the courthouse. The 1977 Act requires public involvement in setting goals and establishing the needs of future soil and water conservation programs. Any and all who are interested in conservation are invited.
