Rural fire departments may once again benefit from the Federal Rural Development Act of 1972. State Forester W. F. Custard, in making this announcement, stated that the $53,000 grant made available last year permitted the purchase of necessary equipment for 161 rural fire departments. Since the Act went into effect in 1972, a total of $230,877 in grant money has been disbursed in 591 matching grants to 225 fire departments. This year the same amount if grant money ($53,000) is ivailable for allocation to tualifying rural departments
