Board member Arthlinda Quaintance noted that the seniors will spend two days riding on a bus in order to sightsee for one day.
‘‘We’d really like the chance to go up to New York—even for one day," Karen responded. "It would be a very special senior trip. We’d be with friends and could enjoy each other's company on the bus ride."
Chairman Beverly Massie asked if parents knew that the seniors were planning a trip to New York and if they sanctioned the idea.
"From what I’ve heard, yes.” Karen answered.
Noting that New York City had changed greatly since she used to take her classes there annually, Mrs. Quaintance asked where the bus tour was going, if it would have a guide and where the motel was located.
When Karen couldn’t supply the Board with exact answers, Mrs. Massie asked for detailed information. "I’d also feel more comfortable with more than four chaparones for 60 young people,” she added, suggesting that at least two additional adults accompany class sponsors Don Bomberger. Ann Speiker and Iordan and music teacher ludy Bomberger.
Stipulating that they wanted more details and a second choice alternative, the School Board members ananimously voted tentative ipproval for the New York rip.
