Periodically schools must be closed due to snow or other inclement weather. When the inclement weather presents a situation that will jeopardize the safety and welfare of the students, the schools w ill be closed.

The normal procedure followed by school officials include the following activities and time schedule. The superintendent arises at approximately 5:00 a.m. to make a check of the road conditions. The highway maintenance personnel becomes a valuable source of road conditions within the county. A check with the Weather Bureau provides information concerning the weather forecast for the day.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. telephone conversations with other superintendents of surrounding counties provide information about the area. It is helpful to know the condition in surrounding counties. The operation of Piedmont Technical Education Center is based on how many of the four divisions are open.

The Supervisor of Transportation, Allie Huff, is called about 6:20 a m. to discuss the road conditions. Then, the decision is made to close schools or have school. If the decision is to close school, the following plan goes into action.

The bus drivers are called by Allie Huff and notified of the decision. The drivers are called as soon as the decision is made.
