"We need a more accurate estimate of the number and distribution of wintering bald eagles in the 48 contiguous states." said Thomas L. Kimball. NWF Executive Vice President. “The midwinter census will provide valuable information on total numbers and age ratios, and will identify important wintering locations. In the past, this data has been partly conjectural due to incomplete coverage of all potential wintering habitat." In that regard the NWF is requesting bird clubs, other outdoor groups and both state and federal agencies to assist in the project.
