school fire alarms, discussed in executive session, will be made after installation bids are opened at the budget input meeting set for February 19.
The board opened the bids on school buses at 2:30 a.m. following a discussion of the buses in executive session. Much earlier, in the public portion of the meeting, the board agreed to buy two buses this year rather than one bus and a vehicle for transporting handicapped students.
Assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel told the board members that the only child who would need special equipment is still small enough to be picked up bodily by either of the two female special education drivers. This child currently attends pre-school classes several days a week and will not be enrolled full-time until 1981-82 school year.
“Somewhere in the immediate future, in the next year or so. it will be necessary to have a vehicle to transport the handicapped,” superintendent William Bloomer said.
Dr. McDaniel noted that all special education students—not just the one child who will eventually be in a wheel chair—will be carried in the special ed vehicle. In addition, he said, the vehicle can be used to
