It seems there was this staunch Republican who found out he didn’t have very long to live. So he attended the Republican Catfcus in his tdwn and resigned from the party. Thi next week he attended a Democratic mass meeting and officially joined their party. He later told his friends if he was gonna die, it might as well be one of them.
Today was Valentine's Day and my thoughts for a moment were of my grandchildren back home opening their Valentines and eating their Grandmother's heartshaped cookies. I’ll bet they had fun and I was missing them.
Speaking of hearts, there were some bleeding hearts here today and some bad legislation having a tough time getting through. One which resurfaced today was the tax rebate bill. The Richmond TV and newspapers have consistently mislabeled this bill by calling it the food tax bill. It is a bill in lieu of sales tax removal.
I voted to bring this bill out of Committee and on to the Floor thinking that those who filed income taxes would get a $33 credit or refund. This turned out not to be the case. Instead, any 18-year old or older merely signs a small piece of paper with a Social Security number and they will get a check in the mail. It would have cost our State millions of dollars going to many underserving people and only doing a halfway job to those who need it, the elderly. So when the bill came on the Floor I voted against it. It was dubbed by
