The January snow storms that Rappahannock caught the edge of laid a blanket on Shenandoah National Park, according to satistics released by superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen.
Readings taken at the Big Meadows weather station show snowfall for January totalled 14 inches in the park. Rain brought another 3.32 inches with a maximum temperature for the month of 50 degrees and a minimum of two degrees.
Visits to the park continued to decline, dropping from 32.500 in January. 1979, to 26.600 in January, 1980, a decrease of 18.2 per cent. Overnight stays totalled 2.013 compared to 2.194 in the same month last year.
