agricultural land in Rap pahannock is now about $350 an acre. "Some of it is as low as $125," Mrs. Scoggin said, adding that wooded land ran about $100 an acre. She estimated the average assessment on farm land at $200 an acre.
Taking that average, Forberg said, property owners will be paying approximately the same taxes after the reassessment as they are now on qualifying land if use value is adopted with a tax rate set at 35 cents per $100.
In response to an inquiry on the administrative costs involved in running a use value taxation program, Forberg suggested that Mrs. Scoggin talk to the commissioner of revenue in Madison County where land use has been in effect for three years.
He indicated that a representative from his office will attend the March 7 board meeting to discuss the reassessment further with the supervisors.
