Non-Drivers
If you don’t have a driver's license, proving your identity and age might be easier if you apply for a non-driver identification card issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Vern L. Hill. DMV commissioner, said the cards should be especially helpful to senior citizens seeking to qualify for discounts to which they are entitled at many places of business.
The cards, first issued in July 1973, are available only to Virginia residents who do not have a driver’s license. They include the owner's name and address, date of birth, sex. signature and color photo. Enclosed in a plastic case, the cards cost S5 and are valid for five years.
Last year DMV issued over 29,000 cards bringing the total issued in the past six and a half years to 114,484.
Applications for the IDs are available at any DMV branch office or license examining station. Individuals seeking the IDs must furnish proof of identity and date of birth. DMV will • accept birth certificates, military records or other similar documents as proof.
