But even with reasonable cause, the . game warden doesn’t have carte blanche approval to search. His right to search extends primarily to the chamber of the gun. If he’s following a suspicious vehicle and sees the barrel of a shotgun disappear as he pulls the driver over, the game warden then has cause to look under the seats for the loaded firearm. But he has no reason to search a glove compartment or trunk.
There have been other smoke screens thrown at the ordinances. Opponents insist that they will take away our right to carry arms and deprive us of much needed protection.
First of all, we don’t think there’s an army of hoodlums amassing on Rappahannock’s back roads, just waiting for these laws so they can waylay defenseless old ladies who no longer can carry their loaded rifles and shotguns in their cars.
