tators. wntie the Horsemen are busy getting ready for the eight races, the fans should be dusting off their finest picnic gear to participate in the Harden and Weaver Handicap.
Conditions for the race call for “ladies and gentlemen at catch weights on the parking area turf. Entries open to anyone with a tailgate, food and beverages. Winner to be determined on the basis of expertise in tailgating.” In other words, the racegoers with the best picnic or buffet spread will receive the special liquid trophy. Entry fees will be collected at the time of judging and will be donated to Children’s Hospital.
The race day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a hunter pace event for pairs of horses or ponies over flagged natural hunting country. Members of several local hunts will be participating with awards going to both the fastest pair and those who finish most closely to the optimum time. This event is the first of a new series being offered in Virginia for pair races. The first race on the afternoon schedule begins at 12:30 p.m. with a maiden hurdle race, followed by an open timber race. A ladies'
