Choral Society
In Rehearsal
The Rappahannock Choral Society has begun rehearsals for the upcoming winter concert set for Sunday, December 21.
Since July 1976 this group has presented Christmas concerts, performed for spring and July Fourth events, as well as benefit programs. Under the direction of Gloria Harris, their performances have included works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Bach, Brahms and other composers from the Renaissance to Romantic periods.
The 1980 Christmas concert will be presented at the Washington Baptist Church beginning at 8 p.m. According to Mrs. Harris, selections included on the program will be the delightful Christmas Cantata by Philipp Friedrich Buchner, a little musical gem bequeathed . to us from the period of the Thirty Years’ War.
Other selections are a group of Renaissance English, Irish and French carols, African and American spirituals and a group of twentieth century seasonal anthems, she added.
“The finale will be Robert Shaw’s Many Moods of Christmas which is an arrangement of favorite carols as Good Christian Men Rejoice, Silent Night,' Patapan, and O Come All Ye Faithful, said Mrs. Harris.
In past concerts, the chorus has often had special guest artists including instrumental soloists and the Rappahannock Dancers. This year the Front Royal Madrigal Singers will be featured.
