When he did say something, he blamed the war on Carter, for God’s sake! Nobody bought that garbage, and that’s the kind of thing that's eating away at his support. We all feel it, and the polls show it.

“If Mr. Reagan backtracks J fast enough between now and November 4, sure,” said the senior reporter, “but if Mr. Carter is to carry the state, Mr. Reagan still has a lot of catching up to do.
