To the editor:
Now that H.M.S. Pinafore has sailed on, it is my pleasure to express sincere thanks to some who helped at the end, not too late to be especially useful, but too late to be acknowledged in the program, to one who was a tower of strength in the final throes, and to all the people of Rappahannock who made our efforts a very welcome financial success for our county library, which is doing an increasingly notable job for Rappahannock. It deserves everyone’s support, and last week it received just that in a heartwarming manner.
The two able assistants (who are the “Rappahannock Finishers” when not constructing a mast for Gilbert and Sullivan operetta) Barbara Sharan and Sandra Maskas, were not only capable and interested but also willing to try a messy job which 1 hoped would eventually produce a mast to our specifications but which I could not guarantee, as it was a first-time venture for the three of us. That it survived three nights of apparently supporting a good-sized sail while looking as if it had played that role for decades was a tribute to their care and energy. They even transported the towering stick to the theatre.
Then next day Jim White, who has just returned to the county stepped the mast along with “D” Knuepfer, who also served with minute attention to detail as properties manager of the production.
