Program Open
A special scholarship program for high school juniors is being offered again this year by Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va. The program is based upon participation in a one-week summer college short course to be given July 26-31.
On the basis of the student’s work in the summer course and high school records. Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test scores and recommendations, he or she may be awarded a four-year Hopwood Scholarship in the amount of $1750 a year toward tuition at Lynchburg College, effective upon completion of the student’s senior year in high school. Up to 20 per cent of the participants will be chosen for the Hopwood Scholarships by a special committee appointed by Dr. Carey Brewer, president of Lynchburg College.
High school students who will be seniors in 1981-82 and are currently in the upper 20 percent of their classes are eligible to apply for the summer short course.
If a student is selected, he or she will be given free tuition for the course chosen by the student from the 18 courses offered, and upon successful completion of the course, will receive one semester hour of college credit.
The high school student's only fee is $40, an amount which covers the cost of regfotratioa and a portion of . the cost of room and board. Tuition and the remainder of the room and board costs will be paid for through the T. Brady Saunders Scholarship Fund.
The deadline for application for the summer college short course is May 29. and students will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance by June 15.
