Most species of ticks can’t survive in cleared areas where they are exposed to excessive sunlight and predators. Keeping areas clear of debris is important in tick control.
“Overwintering ticks become active in early spring, but the majority of the activity is in late spring and summer,” says Robinson. “The period of greatest risk is early-to-mid-summer. About 90 percent of the RMSF cases occur in July.”
