Increase
Visits to Shenandoah National Park continued to increase as April brought out the dogwood blossoms on Blue Ridge Mountain hillsides.
For Calendar Year 1980 compared with Calendar Year 1981, the number of travelers stopping at the park climbed from 222,700 to 279,300, an increase of 26.5 percent. For the month of April, the increase was 21.9 percent, going from 113,700 visits to 138,600.
Overnight stays for April, 1981, also show an increase over the same month in the previous year, from 37,857 to 39,692.
According to weather statistics from Big Meadows Weather Station, the high temperature for April was 78 degrees, the low 21 degrees and total precipitation measured 3.7 inches.
