Free copies of VDACS’s pick-your-own berry guide and “The ABCs of Berries,” a brochure that explains how to pick, can and freeze various berries, can be obtained by writing the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Markets, P. O. Box 1163, Richmond, Va. 23209.
In addition to berries, VDACS offers pick-your-own brochures on vegetables (available May 15), peaches (available June 15), grapes (available August 1) and apples (available September 1).
VDACS also prints a directory of firewood sources, a guide to choosing and cutting Christmas trees, a directory of farmers produce markets and a guide to Virginia estate wineries and their wines.
An area of new development is the direct marketing of livestock. A directory of "Slaughter and Processing Houses in Virginia" is being complied and will be ready for circulation in the near future.
