Although the shop seemed normally busy, with tourists wandering in and out for souvenirs, fruit and Blue Ridge crafts, customers were crowded around the deli counter long past the lunch hour for subs and the delicatessen salads to go with them.
Sacco and Miller are well qualified to operate a gift and novelty shop. They met in Uniontown, Pennsylvania where Miller ran a shop similar to Parkway and Sacco was a sales representative for an importer and manufacturer. “Mike would call on me and advise me on what to buy,” Miller recalled. “After a while 1 joined forces with him and we traveled together. We use to come by here when Mr. Stokes and Mr. Atkins owned it and when we had a chance to buy it we did, and moved our families here.”
