According to attendance figures, enrollment for the first day was 445 at the high school and 585 at the elementary school, down from last year’s 449 and 648 at the two schools on opening day.

Still, 1,030 youngsters are a lot of kids to get moving and into school routines after three months of vacation. "Usually, on the first day of school, the school board office is swamped with calls. We didn’t have a single call. Not one!” Estabrook reported.
