According to Verner. the high school’s sewage system produces a very small amount of effluent which is discharged into a ditch in the woods behind RCHS.
The SWCB notified the school board of the permit violation in a letter dated February 2. Verner said that Environmental Systems Services in Culpeper is to install the chlorinator and train a custodian to RCHS to perform the simple testing procedures.
Estabrook said this week that the board had been aware it would be necessary to install the tablet chlorinator if the quality of the sand filter systems’ effluent dropped below a certain point.
He explained that the $2,350 appropriation approved by the board includes $750 for design and plans from Environmental Systems which must be approved by the SWCB before work can begin.
