Sally Nash and her Last Minute Wood Company will explore the nature of emotional entanglements within a family in a new dance piece,! “Length of Childhood," to be presented this Saturday, April 24, in the elementary school auditorium at 8 p.m.
The original dance drama, choreographed by Nash, is based on her experiences in growing up. It begins by focusing on why the family is formed and the shielding of emotions which takes place in so many homes with Sally as a child danced by Laurie Marshall. Jeanne Drevas dances the part of Sally’s older sister who breaks away from the family and establishes her own community. Sally visits that community with her mother and father and draws the strength to then leave the family herself, first feeling disorientation at being away with nothing to lean on but gradually building her own untangled relationships that allow her to keep her own personal identity.
