The Lady Panthers swept two field events and grabbed eight blue ribbons in a dual meet with William Monroe last Wednesday, overwhelming the Dragonettes 67-36.
Edged out by a 68-50 margin, the RCHS boys continued the steady improvement they’ve shown this year as they posted five first place finishes in the April 14 away meet.
“The kids really worked hard but they made it look easy," reported Coach Ann Spieker.
Marie Davis, Terry Williams and Donna Williams ranked one, two and three in the discus with throws of 93’2”, 71’2” and 67’6", respectively.
Katheryn Davis, Cristol Porter and Raynetta Gheen filled all the slots in the long jump for RCHS as well, jumping 14'9Vi", 14'6” and 14’5'/2”. Competing with an injured foot. Porter jumped only once in the event. Coach Spieker reported.
In the low hurdles, Kim Williams and Darlene Call finished first and second with times of 17.5 and 20.2 seconds.
William Monroe didn’t field any competition in the 880 relay so Rappahannock’s “fast four”. Davis, Porter. Gheen and Williams, took a leisurely jog around the track for first place. They also finished first in the 440 relay in 54.5 seconds.
The mile relay team of Ann Oliver. Kelly Bristol, Susan Sisk and Ann Tupper broke the tape in 5:07. Oliver and Bristol were first and third in the 880 run while Tupper and Sisk finished second and third in the 440.
In the distance events, Rhonda Jenkins added a first for two miles and a third for the mile run for Rappahannock.
