Charlie Tompkins is recovering this week from injuries he received Tuesday in an unusual accident. Horseplay erupted while he was helping local friends move a freezer and Tompkins was struck on the head by an airborne missile first thought to be a frozen zucchini but later positively identified as a slab of ham. He was treated at the Rappahannock Clinic where he received six stitches from Dr. Jerry Martin.
Dr. and Mrs. Robert McDaniel, Kathryn and Jo Anna of Cumberland were weekend guests of Miss Mary Miller Wood. The Rev. and Mrs. David Moore of Blacksburg were overnight guests Friday of Miss Wood.
Mrs. Pauline Hershey of Bristol. Pa., spent from Saturday until Wednesday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Burke. Other visitors Saturday were Mrs. Guy Burke and Trenton Burke of Culpeper and Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Burke of Berryville. Mr. and Mrs. Ashton Burke of Warrenton and Mr. and Mrs. Jennings Burke. Jennifer and Mary Lynn of Alexandria were luncheon guests Sunday in the Burke home and Mrs. John Metzger of Lorton was a dinner guest Monday.
Mrs. Walter Futrell of White Slone spent from Thursday until Saturday with Mrs. W. M. Fletcher. Sunday callers were Mr. and Mrs. Scott Winfield of Georgia.
Miss Evelyn Norment of Sterling, Miss Marie Mason of Richmond and Mrs. Mary E. Burke were visitors Monday of Miss Annie Miller Almond.
Mrs. L. J. Turner attended her 50th class reunion of Westhampton College in Richmond over the weekend. She visited with Mr. and Mrs. William' S. Dewhirst. Ann Dudley and Scott while there.
