In other action at the April 13 meeting, the school board authorized expenditure of $22,277 for a vehicle to be used to transport special education and handicapped students.
The modified 1981 International bus has a wheel chair lift and wide aisles to accommodate a chair and give easy access to the emergency exit. It accommodates 16 passengers in regular seats with additional space for two wheel chairs.
The vehicle will be purchased with $21,300 from the current budget initially marked for a replacement bus. The balance is to come from money expected to be received from sale of two buses to be retired from the fleet this year.
The board also approved contracting with a consulting firm at a maximum cost of $3,750 to put existing school policies into a standard form. Chairman Beverly Massie noted that the scheduled revision of school board policies will require several work sessions involving both the board and the consultants.
In other business, the board okayed a senior class trip to Kings Dominion on May 7 and approved continuance of the fidelity and deposit bond with the General Insurance Agency of Culpeper through Augqst.
