The Washington Town Council voted last Wednesday {tight to postpone the annual town clean-up week to the week of April 25 through May 1, with a special trash pick-up offered on May 1. Town trash collector John Norman had been unable to arrange a special pick-up on Saturday, April 24, the end of the week previously set by the Council as clean-up week. Dorothy Hawkins noted that the Council had set the date without consulting Norman, and he had already made plans for that day.
Mayor Newbill Miller told the Council that the Washington Fire Department would be examined by an insurance company in the near future. "It makes a big difference in fire insurance to have an approved firefighting organization nearby,” Miller said.
Charlie Jenkins, who supervises the Washington Water Works, said that the town water supply was fine and that there was nc need recently to even use the new town well. Jenkins said that he still turned on the pump
