Most people are familiar with the word “acceleration.” Every time they drive a car they use an “accelerator.” Acceleration means an increase in speed or action. That same word is also used with regard to a type of clause that may be found in your mortgage.
An acceleration clause in a mortgage gives the home owner — the mortgagor — the right to increase his monthly payments. Or if he wishes, he can pay up the mortgage in full at any time.
