Monday’s public hearing on the proposed budget was suprisingly quiet considering the advertised 48 cent tax rate represents a 50 percent increase over the current year.
Not a single person spoke in opposition to either the budget or the rate.
“I think 48 cents is as much of a raise that people can take this year and to cut it any more would create problems for next year,” said Sharon Kilpatrick. "But it’s certainly a shame that the school budget was cut as much as it was,” she said, referring to the almost $100,000 trimmed by the su pervisors from the request presented by the school board.
Speaking on behalf of the Rappahannock Fire and Rescue Association, Donald Gore endorsed the $14,250 appropriation included for emergency services in the proposed budget.
