Collecting seven runs and 13 hits, the Sperryville Tigers tightened their hold on first place in the Apple Valley League with a win over Bergton, West Virginia, in an away game Sunday. The victory extends the Tigers streak to 3-0.
“It was a well-executed game, both offensively and defensively,” said coach Sam Aylor. “We got a strong performance from pitcher Jeff Porter. He turned in six good innings for the win and Robert Nickens did a great job to get credit for the save.”
The two pitchers collected a total of ten strikeouts versus only four walks. Coaches Aylor and Oliver Johnson agreed that “it takes a team effort to win. When one player is down, another picks up the slack."
