Rappahannock County High School’s to]) two sports awards for 1988 were presented to Mike Leake, winner of the first “outstanding athlete of the year,” and Cristol Porter, recipient of the annual sportsmanship trophy at last week's awards banquet held at Panorama.
"He led us to the Bull Run District championship ...His valor was tested every Tuesday and Friday night...He broke all scoring records in basketball," said athletic director John Toth as he announced presentation of the athlete of the year to senior Mike Leake.
The all-district and allregional basketball star was accorded a standing ovation by the crowd as he received his trophy. The award, presented for the first time this year to the senior selected by the high school coaches as the outstanding athlete, was donated by Randolph (.'later, owner and manager of the Sperrvville Corner Store. In addition to purchasing the 1988 trophy, Clater has opened a bank account of $250 in the name of Rappahannock County High School so that the award will continue in future years.
