Example By GEORGE BOWLES It is dismaying! At a time when Gov. Chuck Robb is calling for greater rigor in our educational system, and a federal commission is lamenting the decline of scholarship in the nation, the State Board of Community Colleges appears about to again appoint Dr. Dana B. Hamel as chancellor of the system. Dr. Hamel served as chancellor from the mid 60s until June, 1979. He resigned amid a storm of controversy over the alleged “padding" of enrollment figures in several colleges in order to justify larger appropriations from the General Assembly. The board took good care of Dr. Hamel, however. He was immediately hired as a consultant at the tidy fee of $51,000 per year. Then, two months later, a second and even larger bombshell exploded.
