Sperryville was in the news in
June of 1973, when Dr. R.S. LeGarde told the Rappahannock County Supervisors that without an approved central sewer system, Sperryville might have to be “closed down.”
Dr. LeGarde said that the permit for the Village Inn could not be renewed without the existence of an approved sewer system. He added: “I don’t know how many businesses are involved, but the state law is being violated in Sperryville.”
At an eventful supervisor’s meeting, the board also approved a $4.10 tax rate and discussed the pressure of development to face Rappahannock County in the future.
Mrs. L.J. Turner of Washington retired from the Rappahannock County school system after many years of teaching.
The weather was in the news as a flash flood and twister struck the Flint Hill area and three inches of rainfall fell in a half hour. Roads were blocked with water and every level field along Fodderstack was flooded as rivers and streams gushed over their banks.
