The most improved player honors for boys varsity basketball went to Clarence "Perkins" Pendleton, the junior forward who scored 27 points against George Mason and was named to second team alldistrict.
Dawson, who also fills the post of boys baseball coach, selected Jeff Porter, sophomore all-district player, as most improved. Most valuable honors went to Pops Aylor, Bull Run’s top hitter and all-district stand-out, for the third straight year.
Junior Varsity coach Val Gehringer tapped Tommy Jenkins as most valuable JV player. Most valuable eighth grade basketball player based on selection by his teammates was awarded to Gary Jackson by coach Craig Waters.
Theresa McLawhorn named Ann Tapper as most improved in girls varsity basketball. “She pushed herself and worked herself... She could always be counted on to pick up the rest of the girls and boost their spirits," said the coach. Of the most valuable girls basketball winner, freshman Karen Jordan, McLawhorn said “she can go all the way if she has the courage and dedication."
