“I’m a pretty lucky person but I have neighbors who have small farms i they’ve inherited from their folks, a few head of livestock,” Lane noted, adding that those people need their interests represented on the board of supervisors. “I don't see anyone else running (from Stonewall-Hawthorne District) that I have confidence in,” he concluded.
Lane, a farmer, is married.
Originally from the midwest, Lane attended private school until eighth grade and then transferred to a public high school, from which he graduated. He went to the University of New Mexico where he majored in geol-v ogy. Lane dropped out of the university about a year before graduation to take a job as a geologist with Baker and Taylor Drilling Company in Texas. He moved to the county Eldon Farms, owned by his father, shortly after the senior Lane’s death in an automobile accident in 1979.
The 29-year-old school board member is married. He and his wife, Catherine, have two children, Phelps, aged three, and Tennessee, 1 'A.
David Thornhill, member from Stonewall-Hawthorne District on the Rappahannock County Planning Commission, was another possible supervisor candidate testing the waters last week. Thornhill decided on Monday, however, that he will not seek the position.

Collision
Jean Tucker Edyvane of Washington, died in a collision June 8 with a tractor trailer truck just south of Flint Hill.
Trooper R. A. Baines said that Edyvane was traveling north on Route 522 in a Volkswagen Rabbit When she veered into the southbound lane and hit a '74 tractor-trailer truck driven by Robert Lee Streightiff of Midland. Streightiff swerved into the shoulder, through an embankment and over a fence, coming to a stop when the ’74 truck flipped over in a field.
Baines said that both vehicles were totally wrecked. Streightiff was not injured.
