Tuesday, June 12 was an election
day for the town of Washington, with a mayor and six councilmen to be chosen by the voters. Mrs. Wallace Critzer, the present mayor, had said that she was notstanding for re-election.
The paper observed that the town had been ruled by “ladies” for the past 12 years: “In 1950 an allwoman slate was voted into office in a write-in election. Well ladies, it looks like it is up to you again.”
Bulldozers were rolling at the site of the Aileen Manufacturing plant near Flint Hill. The Industrial Development Committee went $3,000 over the goal for pledges to construct the building for Rappahannock’s new industry.
Honor graduates at Rappahannock High School were Barney Pauze, Bonnie Brown, Dorothy Cook and Nancy Latham.
The Hillsdale Drive-In was showing Ben Hurr, Tammy, Tell Me True and The Fiercest Heart.
For Father’s Day, Newberry’s offered sport shirts for $1.98 to $3.98; socks for 59 cents and dress shirts for $3.29.
