Bio-farming conference
Bio-Dynamics, Culture and Agriculture is the theme of a two- day meeting jointly sponsored by the Virginia Association of Biological Farmers and the Bio-Dynamic and Gardening Association of the United States, to be held October 18 and 19 in and around Washintrton.
On Saturday, October 18, the group will meet at the Washington Elementary School where three talks will be given by members of the Bio-Dynamic Association. A lunch and potluck supper will be served. That night there will be a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk by the Washington Eurythmy Group at the Gay Street Theater.

Festival of Leaves
The 16th annual Festival of Leaves, to benefit the Warren County Heritage Society’s restorations, will be held in Front Royal October 11 and 12. Featured will be a judged art show, an arts and crafts show and sale of work of approximately 75 craftsmen, a parade, entertainment,
food concessions, apple butter making, quilt show, Skyline Caverns and - as a bonus this year - free rides on The Best Friend of Charleston, a replica of America’s first steam train.

LFCC homecoming dance
Lord Fairfax Community College Alumni Association is sponsoring a homecoming dance on Saturday, October 18, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the college’s conference center in Middletown.

Heritage fair at CentreviUe
A Heritage Fair will be held October 4 and 5 at Cedar Crest Country Club, Bull Run Post Office Road, CentreviUe. Events include a draft horse pulling contest Saturday at 7 p.m. and a coon mule jumping contest Sunday at 3 p.m. Both days there will be working sheep dog demonstrations, miniature horse wagon rides, “Make Your Own

Fundamentals of drawing
at Middle Street
Local artist Robin Purnell will offer a five-lesson course on drawing October 6 through November 3 at the Middle Street GaUery. Using objects from the natural world (i.e. shells, mushrooms, fish, plant life, etc.), participants will explore the basic techniques of executing a drawing and sharpening their powers of observation.
Emphasis will also be placed on experimentation with materials. Lessons for beginners will also be offered.
Classes will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The fee for the course is $50 and does not include materials. Pre-registration is required. To register call Robin Purnell at 675-3081.
