It is expected that either the Senate or the House will reject the amended version, thus forcing the matter into “conference.”
For example, should the Senate reject the House tax package, the House leadership will ask the Senate to go into conference.
Typically, a conference is made up of six lawmakers — three from the Senate and three from the House.
The conferees then hash out their differences and, ideally, report an identical package back to their respective chambers that’s agreeable to the members.
It’s anybody’s guess when the conferees will report back to the Senate and House to vote.
