A great party
To the editor:
Didn’t Mrs. Kilby and her committee do a fine job of planning and managing the party on September 13 in honor of Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance? It was such fun to see the old snapshots of the girls’ basketball teams, the May courts and Mr. Winfrey on the dance floor. Incidentally, the snap of the graduates in white robes that was introduced as “unidentified” was five, of the 11 of us girls who graduated in 1942 with Roger Woodward, the lone male.
Henry B. Wood stole the show with his Tales of Mary Botts Quaintance, Private Eye. And the notes from parents read by the former assistant principal were delightful. Two examples for any readers of the News who couldn’t be present: “Please excuse Johnny for being absent. I took him to the doctor, and he shot him.” And “I got your letter saying Billy is a bad boy. He has been bad ever since he was born, which was his father’s fault.”
The only flaw in an otherwise perfect evening was Mrs. Winfrey’s inability to attend. Like Mrs. Quaintance, she has spent a lifetime helping young people develop their abilities and achieve their dreams.
