The dance of legislation this week continues over Senate and House versions of tax plans to fund a massive statewide road construction program.
On Monday night, the House of Delegates struggled to adopt a revenue package that would produce about $570 million in new funds for highway needs.
Tuesday afternoon the Senate adopted a package of bills that would raise about $530 million per year in . new revenues.
Gov. Gerald L. Baliles proposed a plan that would have generated about $630 million a year for the next decade.
But because the Senate and Senate plans don’t jibe, it’s likely they will go to a conference committee.
The “conference” approach to resolving interchamber differences can be complicated and protracted.
