The monthly workshops for prospective innkeepers offered by The Conyers House in Sperryville are a direct result of the guests teaching the teacher, said Sandra Cartwright-Brown, owner of The Conyers House.
She said that she found herself answering the same questions every weekend. The guests continue to ask two questions: "Have you always wanted to own a country inn?” and “How did you get started doing this?”
So, , rather than giving an informal workshop every weekend over breakfast, Mrs. Cartwright-Brown organized several workshops in February and March, 1986.
The response was so favorable that she continued the workshops through September. After calling “time out” for the holidays, the workshops resumed this month.
Of the 125 people who have attended the workshops, 17 have opened bed and breakfasts or have purchased property with the eventual goal of operating an inn. With
