I realize after speaking with Commonwealth Attorney Peter Luke that ignorance is no excuse for not knowing the law, and that quite frequently warnings are given and a grace -period allowed. I was given neither, and feel this is unfair. The county should in some way make known, not only by putting notices in when new stickers are available, but all throughout the year.
Of course, I will have to pay the fine and court costs totaling $40 - but I’ll always remember what Mr. Luke said, “Welcome to Virginia!”
