Eastham gels
six months
“This crime, in this court’s judgement, is the most severe breaking and entering ever observed in Rappahannock County,” said Judge W. Shore Robertson, as he sentenced John Richard Eastham, 19, of Rt. 1 Washington, to six months in jail for the burglary of Mrs. Charles Compton’s house on Rt. 645 in Amissville last Feb. 28.
Eastham was charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny in the incident. Judge Robertson sentenced the young man to two years in the state penitentiary on the grand larceny charge, plus two years supervised probation, but suspended the penitentiary term. Eastham was then given the six month jail term on the breaking and entering charge. He was also ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution and make restitution to Mrs. Compton.
Judge Robertson said that he felt that the plea agreement was lenient, but because of the defendant’s “good past record, his cooperation with law enforcement and the recommendation of the Commonwealth Attorney,” he accepted the arrangement.
