He also assisted us with another unrelated investigation, he told us where some stolen property was - some was returned as a result of the information . . . The most truthful information (about the investigation) was received from Mr. Eastham.”
Eastham testified that the idea from the break-in came from his friends Chucky and Suzie Larimer and their parents. “Everybody came up with the idea, I just went along.”
In a subdued voice, he added that “I think what we did was really bad. We owe Mrs. Compton a lot ... I wrote her a letter of apology... Nobody thought about Mrs. Compton’s feelings - It was really bad.”
“I’d like to make it up,” he concluded. “I’d like to try and straighten out my life.”
Lee Nettles, clinic director of Family Guidance Services of Rappahannock, testified that Eastham had been evaluated by his office after his arrest, resulting from a referral prompted by Eastham’s depression and anxiety following his arrest.
Asked by Mr. Reynolds for an opinion on the effect jail time might have on Eastham, Mr. Nettles replied, “I couldn’t speculate on the effects of incarceration.”
