Glick
Donald Lawrence Glick, 62, of Port Republic, was stricken by an apparent heart attack while working at Myers Ford Co. and died shortly after arriving at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Jan. 7.
The son of the late Rev. John T. and Effie Evers Glick, he was bom in Timberville. The family moved to the Bridgewater area in 1980.
Mr. Glick was graduated from Bridgewater College with a BA degree and did graduate studies at the University of Virginia and the University of Pittsburgh.
He taught and coached in Rockingham County schools from 1948 to 1985. He was state track coach of the year in 1977 and was named to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1979, among other honors.
He was a member of a number of professional associations, the Bridgewater College Estate Planning Committee and the Cross-Keys Mill Creek Ruritan Club.
He was also a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, which he served in a number of official capacities.
Mr. Glick is survived by his wife, the former Jean Racer of Rappahannock, whom he married in 1948. He also leaves two sons, Larry Glick, Harrisonburg, and Frederick Glick, Grottoes, three daughters, Donna Jean Glick, Boston, Mass., Karen Glick-Metzler, Covington, and Cheryl Lynn Glick-Chandler of Port Republic, and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are six brothers and four sisters.
A memorial service was conducted Jan. 10 at the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren by Rev. Tom Geiman. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Donald L. Glick Memorial Fund for Ministerial Student Assistance, Shenandoah District Church of the Brethren, Box 248, Dayton 22821.
