At Friday’s deadline, there was a single bid for Rappahannock’s trash contract, and the bidder, BrowningFerris Incorporated of Winchester, wants almost $160,000 more for the service than the supervisors have budgeted for 1987-88.
According to administrative assistant John McCarthy, BrowningFerris proposes to maintain collection bins with 90 cubic yard capacity at Flint Hill, Scrabble and Amissville and to empty the dumpsters four times a week for $22,950. Then for an additional $25 per ton, the company will dispose of the solid waste at a private landfill in the Richmond area. With the county's current trash stream of 15-16 tons per day, that would work out to $136,875 annually for disposal, Mr. McCarthy figured.
