That 69 cents represents a 19 percent jump over the current 68 cent rate. To cover the shortfall, either additional funds might be taken from surplus or, if the difference is to be made up with new money, the rate will have to climb another seven cents. And that would mean another round of public hearings, since the proposed rate must be readvertised if it is to be raised above 69 cents.

the Board of Supervisors, the assistant superintendent was charged with overseeing special education and Chapter I while gifted and talented programs at both schools were developed and administered by teacher Laurie Marshall.

In other budget adjustments made last Thursday, the School Board:

• Eliminated two aide positions after learning that two people now holding those jobs will not return next year.

• Set salary increases for teachers at 11 percent.

• Set raises for all classified personnel at seven percent. (The supervisors had recommended 10 percent for aides and bus drivers and five percent for secretarial staff and custodians.)

• Upped the pay increase for the central office bookkeeper to 14 percent to reflect that position’s higher level of responsibility and kept the salary for the administrative secretary at this year’s level since the person now in that job will not be returning next year.

• Gave all administrators a seven percent pay increase.

• Eliminated the allocation for sabbatical leave, as suggested by the supervisors, but only idler learning that the teacher who had applied for sabbatical leave has withdrawn her request.

Already approved by the Board of Supervisors, Rappahannock’s school budget for 1987-88 stands at $3,407,792. That figure represents a 12 percent increase over the expenditure for the current year.
